greentext chat

Greentext chat servers don’t change the game loop, they change the room you’re playing in. A message turns green when you start it with a prefix (most commonly >), giving chat that forum storytime vibe. People naturally write in short narration, deadpan callouts, and running bits because the formatting reads like a shared thread instead of random chatter.

In practice it’s normal multiplayer with a louder social layer. You still see coords, trades, and where the fight is happening, but greentext lines pop out as quick anecdotes and updates: a failed Nether run, a raid warning, a base rumor, a one-line victory lap. That visibility gives servers a stronger chat identity whether they are survival, anarchy-lite, or towny.

The cleanest setups keep it opt-in. Greentext is something you choose when you want to perform, while regular chat stays readable for coordination and moderation. When it’s done right, you can grind, build, and PvP as usual, and the server’s culture gets built in chat alongside the world.

How do I write in greentext?

Most servers make your message green only if you start the line with a prefix like >. If you type normally, it stays regular chat, so important info like coords and prices stays easy to scan.

Is greentext chat the same as roleplay?

No. It can include light narration, but it’s not about staying in character. It’s more like punchy storytelling and commentary mixed into normal survival conversation.

Does greentext work in private messages or other chat channels?

Depends on the server. Many only allow it in public chat, disable it in staff or trade channels, or filter it to control spam. If a server has multiple channels, expect greentext rules to be channel-specific.

Why not make every message green?

All-green chat gets hard to read fast. Opt-in greentext keeps the style without burying practical lines like warnings, raid calls, and coordination.
