No theft
No theft servers run on a simple contract: you do not take what other players own. No looting chests, no grabbing shulkers, no stripping someone’s build for materials. That one boundary changes survival from constant suspicion into a space where you can build openly and keep your progress without hiding it at world border.
In practice, ownership applies to storage and placed blocks even when stealing is technically possible. Breaking in to reach a chest, taking from furnaces or hoppers, walking off with items left at a shop, or clearing someone’s “temporary” stash still counts. Many servers reinforce this with claims, locks, and audit logs, but the defining feature is the expectation and enforcement, not the specific tools.
The loop shifts toward long-term building and trade. People run farms without babysitting them, invest in towns and nether hubs, and stock shops because the economy is not built on raiding offline players. You still have survival consequences, but progress is meant to come from grinding, planning, and collaboration, not opportunistic theft.
No theft does not automatically mean no PvP or no griefing. Some servers allow PvP in arenas, events, or agreed conflicts while still banning stealing, and they often treat scams and grief as separate rules. The point is that your storage and builds are not supposed to be a loot pinata the moment you log off.
Does no theft mean my base is protected automatically?
Often, but not always. Many servers use claims or locks to block access, and staff can confirm incidents with logs. Others rely more on rules and enforcement. Either way, taking items you do not own is treated as a violation, not fair play.
What usually counts as theft?
Looting chests, barrels, shulker boxes, furnaces, and hoppers; taking from item frames; breaking blocks to access storage; harvesting private farms without permission; and grabbing someone’s dropped items when it’s clear they are trying to recover them. Marked public resources and free chests are usually exceptions, but definitions vary.
If I find someone’s base, is raiding allowed?
No. Discovering a base does not remove ownership. Exploration is part of survival, but the expectation is that you leave other players’ storage and builds alone unless the server has explicit war or raid rules.
Can I take items from unclaimed builds or wilderness chests?
Usually not. Claims are typically a protection tool, not permission to steal anything unclaimed. Some servers do treat claims as the boundary, but they will state that clearly because it changes the whole format.
How do shops work on no theft servers?
They are safer to run. You will commonly see chest shops, shop districts, and player markets where stock is left unattended. Enforcement focuses on preventing walk-off theft and keeping trades straightforward so players trust the economy.
Does no theft also mean no griefing or no PvP?
Not necessarily. Many communities pair no theft with no griefing and optional PvP for a calmer survival feel, but others allow PvP in specific contexts while still protecting property. Check how they define griefing, war rules, and what happens to items after PvP kills.
