Set home command servers let you save a personal return point with /sethome and teleport back with /home. That one tool changes survival fast: the long walk stops being the default, supply runs tighten up, and you can push out early without committing to a permanent camp every time you explore.
It plays like survival with distance turned down. You still earn resources the normal way, but travel stops being the main cost, so projects scale sooner and people settle in more places. Boats, rails, and Nether routes matter less unless the server puts pressure back in with a home limit, cooldown or warmup, or a cost in money or XP.
The details decide the vibe. One home with a real cooldown keeps planning meaningful and makes deaths and raids sting. Multiple homes turns the world into a personal waypoint network: base, villagers, farm, mining outpost, stronghold. On PvP or raiding servers, /home can be an escape button or a liability depending on combat tagging, warmup cancellation on damage, and whether teleports are blocked in certain regions or dimensions.
If you like building and steady progression but do not want your sessions eaten by backtracking, this format hits the middle ground. The good servers are explicit about limits and anti-abuse rules so teleporting saves time without deleting risk.
Most servers let /sethome record your current coordinates and /home teleport you there later. Common modifiers are a warmup timer, a cooldown, a currency or XP cost, and a cap on stored homes.
Often, yes, via named homes like /sethome main and /home main. Some servers restrict you to one home to keep travel and exploration weighty.
Many PvP servers prevent it with combat tagging, a warmup that cancels if you take damage, or by disabling teleports in specific areas. On looser rulesets, escaping is possible and becomes part of the meta.
No. Beds usually still set your respawn point and handle phantom mechanics, while /home is just a teleport destination. Some servers link homes to beds, but plenty keep them separate.
Home count limit, warmup and cooldown lengths, teleport cost, cross-dimension support, and restrictions tied to claims, combat, the Nether, or The End.
