Toggleable phantoms

Toggleable phantoms means phantom spawning can be enabled or disabled, most often per-player and sometimes by world or region. In vanilla, staying awake long enough triggers phantom waves; here, insomnia stops being a hard punishment and becomes a personal choice.

The night loop feels different. Builders, miners, and long-distance travelers can ignore beds without being forced into aerial fights, while players who like the extra pressure can keep phantoms on. You still deal with normal survival threats like mobs, hunger, and fall damage, but you are not constantly paying a tax for choosing to work through the night.

Because phantoms are the main source of membranes, servers usually provide a fallback when phantoms are off: trades, loot, shops, or a controlled way to farm them. The pacing shift is the point: you sleep for morning, spawn setting, or coordination, not because a timer is about to send fliers at your head.
