Treasure ships
Treasure ships servers run on a clean loop: a loot ship spawns at sea, and everyone chooses a role fast. Chase it, cut someone off, or arrive late to third-party the fight. The ship is the objective, and whoever holds the deck gets paid.
The real game starts before contact. Crews load up food, blocks, arrows, repair mats, and spare boats, then push out scanning horizons and following whatever intel the server provides, like coordinates, map markers, beacons, or callouts. Positioning on open water matters. You angle your approach, deny escape lines, and decide when to commit because getting knocked off course costs more than missing a swing.
Boarding turns into tight, ugly combat. Many servers seed ships with drowned, guardians, pillagers, or custom mobs, so the first team up is fighting PvE while eating ranged pressure from other players. Deck fights reward control over ladders, trapdoors, low ceilings, and corners. Knockback is lethal, shields can feel clumsy, and one fishing rod, wind charge, or well-timed bow shot can reset a push into the ocean. Expect fast block placement for cover and to lock down stairwells the way you would in a small dungeon.
Good setups spread loot across holds and rooms instead of one grab-and-go chest, so holding the ship is a sustained contest. The spike of tension is extraction: getting shulkers or high-value items off the ship and back to safety while other crews tail you through open water. Even if the server has safe zones, the run home is where ambushes land and alliances snap.
Progression is usually light, but it changes outcomes. Mobility and endurance decide who reaches ships first, stays on deck, and escapes clean. Depth Strider, Respiration, Feather Falling, a stack of blocks, and a reliable ranged option do more work than pure damage. The strongest crews win because they read spawn patterns, predict routes, and pick fights they can finish, not because they outgear every lobby.
Is treasure ships mostly PvP or can it be played as PvE?
The format naturally creates PvP because the loot is shared and visible. Some servers lean calmer with instanced ships, combat limits near the event, or organized team signups, but most of the time you are competing with other crews even if mobs are the first hurdle.
What wins a treasure ship event consistently?
Control access, then loot, then leave. Secure ladders and choke points, clear the mobs so you are not fighting two battles, and designate one looter while the rest hold angles and watch the waterline. Most losses come from overcommitting to the first brawl or getting greedy and forgetting extraction.
What gear matters most for treasure ships?
Water mobility and not dying to knockback. Depth Strider and Respiration are huge, plus Feather Falling for bad dismounts. Bring blocks, a bow for water fights, and potions like Water Breathing and Swiftness if allowed. Always carry enough food and a backup boat because getting dumped into the ocean is normal.
Are treasure ships random spawns or scheduled events?
Both are common. Random spawns reward scouting and staying active, but they favor whoever is online at the right time. Scheduled or announced spawns produce bigger, fairer clashes since crews can show up prepared. Your best choice depends on whether you want constant opportunistic fights or fewer, more organized events.
Do servers use custom ships or just vanilla boats?
Most use custom ships that spawn for the event and despawn after, often protected so they do not get griefed into rubble. Travel is usually vanilla boats, but some servers add controllable ships or naval mechanics. If ship handling is the point for you, check whether you are actually sailing or just fighting on a static build out at sea.
