Vote to sleep

Vote to sleep replaces the old requirement that everyone must use a bed. Instead, the server skips night (and often thunderstorms) once a set number or percentage of players are in bed. The exact threshold varies, but the goal is the same: move time forward without dragging the whole server into a full stop.

It noticeably changes multiplayer rhythm. Dusk still matters, but you are less likely to have progress stalled because someone is deep underground, thousands of blocks out, or simply AFK. Night becomes a brief, shared nuisance the group can clear quickly, so building, mining, trading, and travel keep their momentum.

Most setups also ease phantom pressure in active communities since nights get skipped more regularly, and many provide a clear chat prompt or counter showing vote progress. The social dynamic is simple and familiar: someone asks for sleep, a few players hop into beds for a moment, and everyone gets back to what they were doing.

How many players need to sleep to skip the night?

It depends on the server. Common rules are one sleeper, a majority, or a percentage of online players. Many servers show a progress message when players enter beds, so you can tell whether the skip will trigger.

Does it work if some players are in the Nether or the End?

Sometimes. Many servers count all online players but only advance time in the overworld. Others exclude players in other dimensions from the vote. This matters if your group is split across dimensions and still wants reliable night skips.

Does vote to sleep prevent phantoms?

It usually reduces phantom problems because the server reaches morning more often, helping players reset the insomnia timer. It will not eliminate phantoms if players stay awake through multiple nights or the server uses custom phantom settings.

Can one player force it to be day?

Not in a true vote to sleep setup. Sleep only succeeds after the required number of sleepers is reached. Servers that allow a single player to skip night are typically running one-player sleep rather than a vote.

Does it also skip thunderstorms?

Often yes, but not always. Many servers treat thunderstorms like night and clear them through the same sleep vote, while others only advance the time and leave weather unchanged.
