Walking Dead

Walking Dead servers play like apocalypse survival: broken towns, thin supplies, and constant pressure to stay moving without getting noticed. You usually spawn with nothing, sweep nearby houses for food and a starter weapon, then choose between a risky run to a high value area or a quieter route where you can actually survive. The tempo is slower than arena PvP because the map and sightlines do as much damage as players do.

The loop is simple and sharp: loot, relocate, and manage risk. Points of interest are stocked through chest spawns or custom loot tables, so you end up running routes based on what you need: medical for bandages and antibiotics, police for weapons, industrial for tools and armor, farms for food. Gear is meant to be spent. Durability, hunger, and limited inventory space keep you making decisions instead of hoarding.

Zombies are treated like a real threat, not background mobs. Expect heavier spawns, tighter knockback in hallways, and variants on some servers. Infection systems are common: take hits, start bleeding, run out of meds, and you are suddenly on a timer where the smart play is finding treatment or setting up a clean reset. Many servers pair this with harsher death rules, so every bad fight is expensive even if you win.

Player interaction is where the format comes alive. The maps favor ambushes with long streets, rooftops, and chokepoints at bridges and stairwells, and a single gunshot can pull a horde into the middle of a fight. Groups tend to stay small because big squads are loud and predictable. You get tense standoffs in clinics, deals made at the edge of a town, and betrayals over a backpack. The best servers make you weigh trust against survival, and they let your choices stick.

Is it mostly PvE with zombies, or PvP with zombies on the side?

Good Walking Dead servers make it both. Zombies are dangerous enough that PvP creates problems instead of solving them: shooting draws attention, chasing gets you boxed in, and camping a building can turn into a swarm you cannot control. When infected pressure is tuned well, fights are messy and people disengage more often.

Do Walking Dead servers usually have guns?

Often, yes, but it is not required. Guns fit because ammo becomes the limiter and noise is a real cost. Some servers stay close to vanilla with bows and crossbows, and it still works as long as loot is scarce and travel is risky.

What happens when you die?

Death rules vary, but the common intent is that dying sets you back. Some servers use normal drops, others use corpse loot you have to recover, limited respawns, or harsher systems tied to infection. If the server calls itself hardcore apocalypse, assume you are meant to plan around extraction and safe storage, not just winning fights.

What counts as progression if the loop is just scavenging?

Progress is stability. You learn safe routes, build stashes, secure a hideout you can defend or abandon, and put together kits you can replace. On some servers, long-term progress comes from controlling a reliable loot area, crafting higher-tier meds, or maintaining a base without advertising it to the whole map.

Is roleplay required?

Not always. Some servers run strict roleplay, but plenty are just survival with social friction. Even without formal RP, proximity chat, negotiations, and fear naturally create moments that feel like roleplay because talking can be safer than fighting.
