X ray protection

X ray protection is the server-side setup that blocks X-ray texture packs and wallhack clients from spotting ores, chests, spawners, and hidden rooms through solid blocks. On a server that takes it seriously, mining goes back to normal skill: reading terrain, following caves, branch mining, and committing to digs without perfect information.

Most implementations use an anti-xray engine that obfuscates valuable blocks until they are actually exposed. You break into a pocket, then the real ore appears. When it is tuned well, it stays out of your way: caving and efficient mining still pay off, but the telltale straight tunnels that laser onto every vein mostly stop happening.

The real change is pacing. Without protection, diamonds and netherite flood in, gear loses meaning, and survival or factions economies get warped by a handful of cheaters. With X ray protection, progression feels earned again, shops and trades stay closer to real effort, and getting stacked early is something you notice instead of assuming.

It also makes underground storage less of a coin flip. X-ray is not just about ore; it is a base-finding tool. Strong protection pushes raids back toward scouting, slip-ups, and actual infiltration instead of someone digging directly to your vault because they could see it.

There are tradeoffs. Heavy-handed configs can make fresh tunnels look oddly uniform or make ore reveal feel slightly delayed. The better servers keep it subtle and enforce clear rules on clients, so the world feels fair without constantly reminding you why.
