Combat Logging Punish

Combat logging punish servers treat disconnecting mid-fight as part of the fight, not a reset. If you log out while combat tagged, the server applies a consequence meant to preserve the outcome: your player may remain in-world as a logout NPC, you may die and drop items, or you might eat a short ban or cooldown. The message is consistent: if you take a fight, you do not get to end it with a disconnect.

That single rule changes how PvP feels. Chases matter because the low player cannot just vanish at the edge of render distance. Kills are more likely to pay out, and losing actually means losing instead of denying loot through an alt+F4. It makes roaming, raiding, and grudges more readable because outcomes stick.

Most servers make this work with a visible combat tag timer and clear triggers, usually dealing or taking damage, and sometimes being inside a raid context. The good versions are predictable: you know when you are tagged, how long it lasts, and what happens if you drop. It still leaves room for real plays like pearling, blocking off, shielding, and escaping, but the escape has to happen in the world, not in the menu.

What usually counts as combat logging?

Logging out, disconnecting, or swapping servers while a combat tag is active. The tag typically starts when you deal or take damage and refreshes with each hit until the timer runs out.

What punishments are most common?

The standard approach is leaving your character behind until the tag ends so opponents can finish the kill. Other servers treat it as an instant death, force an inventory drop, apply a short ban or logout cooldown, or add an economy penalty.

How do servers handle genuine crashes or lag?

The cleanest setups rely on logout NPCs and consistent timers rather than guessing intent. You might get a brief grace window, but you generally will not be protected from a disconnect if you were already in a losing fight.

When is it safe to log out?

After the combat timer fully expires. Many servers show a countdown in the action bar, boss bar, or scoreboard so you can wait it out before quitting.

Does it apply to duels and arenas?

Often yes, but it is commonly handled as a forfeit instead of a full loot drop, especially on servers where arena kits are separate from open-world gear.
