IV hunting

IV hunting is the long-session game of chasing the right Individual Values, not just a rare spawn. You keep catching or breeding until the stat line hits, then decide whether it becomes a team piece, a trade asset, or a trophy. Progress feels earned through routines, not luck spikes: efficient routes, fast checks, clean storage, and knowing when to stop at good enough.

Most servers revolve around two loops. Capture hunting is biome laps and spawn checks: catch, read the IVs and nature, keep the hits, release the rest. Breeding hunting is slower but more controlled: build parent lines, run egg cycles, and climb toward consistent 5IV and 6IV results over generations. Both reward players who track spreads, manage boxes, and shave downtime.

The culture around IV hunting is practical and social. Trade chat is full of spreads, natures, abilities, and pricing debates, with steady demand for competitive-ready rolls and useful oddities like 0 Speed. Small networks form for swapping parents, sharing spawn intel, and moving near-misses that still have value. It ends up feeling like a workshop economy where knowledge and discipline convert time into stats.

Is IV hunting only worth it if I plan to battle competitively?

No. Competitive play is a common endpoint, but many players IV hunt to perfect a favorite species, build a collection, or make money from trades. On these servers, the hunt and the market are the main game.

What IV spreads do players actually consider valuable?

A clean 5IV with the correct dump stat is the usual target, with 6IV as the premium roll. Some roles deliberately want a low stat, like 0 Speed, so value depends on how well the spread fits a real build rather than just the total number of perfect stats.

Do IV hunting servers usually expect breeding, or can I just catch?

It depends on tuning and tools. Some servers make capture hunting viable with clear IV visibility and healthy spawn rates. Others are set up so breeding is the reliable way to reach repeatable 5IV and 6IV outcomes.

Why does IV hunting feel smooth on one server and miserable on another?

Downtime is the difference. Clear IV readouts, manageable egg cycles, storage and release quality-of-life, and a functioning economy for selling near-perfect rolls keep you hunting. Without those, the grind turns into inventory, travel, and UI friction.

How are IV hunted creatures typically priced in trades?

Buyers pay for usefulness: exact IV spread, nature, ability, and how close it is to being ready. A correct-nature 5IV with the right ability often sells faster than a mismatched 6IV, because it saves the buyer time and rework.
