KOS
KOS, short for Kill On Sight, is survival PvP where the default assumption is hostility. If another player comes into view, you treat it as contact, not a conversation. Most encounters resolve as an immediate attempt to secure the kill, escape, or gain position before the other side does.
The loop is preparation and tempo: gear quickly, move with intent, and keep your head on a swivel. Travel with food and blocks ready, keep cover in mind, and avoid stopping in the open to craft or sort inventory. Threat assessment happens fast: armor tier, shields, ranged weapons, potion particles, and how confidently someone pushes your angle.
KOS servers feel tense because the world constantly carries human signals. You start tracking chopped forests, odd torch lines, looted structures, and Nether tunnels that point to active routes. Bases trend toward hidden, modular, or expendable. Players split valuables across stashes and ender chests, keep backup kits, and build around misdirection because getting caught at a chest wall is often riskier than the fight itself.
Social play exists, but trust is a resource, not a default. Alliances form through repeated contact, shared enemies, or comms, and they last only while incentives align. Some servers still have protected hubs, markets, or event areas, but outside those boundaries KOS means you survive through preparation and information, not etiquette.
Does KOS mean the server has no rules?
No. KOS describes what players are allowed and expected to do in the wild: initiate PvP immediately and treat strangers as threats. Many KOS servers still enforce rules against cheating, dupes, and certain exploits, and may protect spawn or specific towns.
Is KOS the same thing as anarchy?
Not exactly. Anarchy is about minimal moderation and few restrictions overall. KOS is about the social contract around PvP: contact usually means combat. A server can be moderated and still play KOS, and an anarchy server can still have pockets of cooperation.
What should you do first on a KOS server?
Leave spawn fast, avoid obvious trails, and place your first base away from landmarks and travel lines. Rush iron and food, prioritize mobility and quick resets over long projects, and assume you are visible the moment you stop moving.
What base style survives best under KOS?
Small, hidden, and redundant. Multiple exits, scattered stashes, and decoys beat a single impressive base. Minimize tells like loud redstone, obvious farms, or repeated pathing that leads someone straight to your storage.
Can you safely trade or cooperate on KOS servers?
Sometimes, but it is situational and usually structured. Protected hubs, scheduled markets, and events can create temporary safety. Outside those spaces, cooperation tends to depend on leverage, reputation, and clear mutual benefit.
