Ledger

A Ledger server is survival multiplayer built around accountability. The world plays like a normal SMP, but key interactions leave a record: who placed or broke blocks, who opened containers, what was taken, and often things like fire, explosions, and doors. When a farm gets emptied or a wall disappears, it is not a chat argument. Someone checks the history and you get a clear answer.

That single change shifts how people play. Players build closer, run public farms, and keep shared storage because the risk of anonymous theft is low. Drama still happens, but it is about decisions and rules, not finger-pointing. Good Ledger communities feel relaxed because trust is cheap to maintain, not because everyone is perfect.

How it works varies. Some servers let anyone inspect a block or chest to see recent edits; others keep lookups with staff to avoid privacy issues and dogpiles. Either way, the system is meant as a safety net. You can prank, feud, or fight where it is allowed, but consequences are enforceable and false accusations do not linger.

If you like long-term worlds, towns, and big builds that would normally be too easy to sabotage, Ledger makes that style sustainable. It does not turn survival into a courtroom. It keeps the social layer healthier when the server is busy and the stakes are real.

Is a Ledger server the same as an anti-grief server?

Not exactly. Anti-grief usually focuses on prevention through claims and hard protections. Ledger focuses on traceability. Damage can still happen, but it is attributable, and moderation has evidence to work with.

What does a ledger usually record?

Typically block place and break, container opens and item movement, and common grief sources like fire or explosions. Many also track doors, trapdoors, and some entity-related events. Exact coverage depends on the server.

Will I be able to check the ledger myself?

Depends on the rules. Some servers allow public inspection tools so players can verify their own bases. Others keep it staff-only to reduce harassment and protect privacy. The key is that disputes can be checked against records.

Can people still steal from chests on a Ledger server?

Yes, unless the server also uses claims or locks. The difference is that stealing usually is not anonymous, so enforcement is straightforward.

Does Ledger mean staff can roll back grief?

Sometimes, but not always. Logs can help rebuild or undo damage when the server has the tools and keeps enough history. At minimum, they make it clear what happened and who did it.

Does logging affect performance?

On a well-run server, you rarely notice it during normal play. Poorly tuned logging or huge, unpruned histories can cause issues, but competent setups store efficiently and clean up old data.
