Prestiges
Prestiges are a progression loop where you reset a capped track to unlock a higher tier of power, access, or efficiency. You hit a ceiling (rank, mine, island level, gear tier, or money curve), prestige, and start the climb again with a permanent edge. The goal is not to wipe your work. It is to turn the end of one grind into the next bracket.
Most systems reset some mix of balance, levels, blocks mined, kills, or gear, while keeping your prestige count and account-wide unlocks. Those keeps are the real progression: multipliers, perk slots, token capacity, new mines and shops, stronger enchants, extra kit tiers, or QoL like /sell and backpacks. Some servers run a near-hard reset; others let you carry more utility. Either way, prestiging is a controlled rewind with forward momentum.
Prestige servers reward routing and timing. You learn the fastest money loop, what to upgrade before a reset, and what to liquidate. In Prison that usually means pickaxe enchant stacks, mine unlock pacing, and selling at the right moments. In economy Skyblock it can look like repeating an island upgrade cycle for better minions, generators, or drop rates. Your prestige number becomes shorthand for experience: time invested, economy awareness, and how cleanly you can loop.
Good prestiges introduce new breakpoints, not just bigger multipliers. A prestige should change your options (new mechanics, enchants, areas, or meaningful QoL) so the next climb plays differently. When it is only larger numbers on the same route, the resets start to feel automatic.
What usually resets when you prestige?
Common resets are money, level, rank or mine tier, island level, and current gear tier. Common keeps are your prestige count plus permanent unlocks like multipliers, perk slots, access to higher content, and account-wide kits. The big question is what happens to enchants, pets, and storage items, because that determines whether you should sell, stash, or push one last upgrade before prestiging.
Why prestige instead of sitting at max?
Because max is typically a soft wall. Prestiging converts that wall into growth by unlocking higher income scaling, new areas, and stronger permanent perks. On servers built around the loop, staying unprestiged means your upgrades slow down while prestige players ramp faster with better multipliers and access.
When is the right time to prestige?
Prestige when your next upgrades take longer than the value you gain from the prestige reward. If your income curve is flattening, you are close. Before you do it, cash out anything that will reset, move what carries over into the right storage, and time it after a major sell or milestone if that spike will be wiped.
Are prestiges pay-to-win by default?
Not by themselves. They tilt pay-to-win when permanent advantages are sold directly or when paid boosts stack so hard that the ladder becomes unreachable through play. In healthier setups, the prestige power comes from earned unlocks, while purchases are cosmetic or limited QoL.
Where do prestiges show up most often?
Prison is the classic home, built around rank and mine ladders. You also see prestiges in economy-heavy Skyblock servers, kitpvp ladders with permanent perks, and RPG economy servers that use resets to extend endgame progression.
