Velocity
Velocity servers are networks, not a single world. You connect once to a proxy, then get routed between multiple backend servers without re-logging. That usually looks like a hub or lobby up front, with Survival, Skyblock, Practice, minigames, and event realms each running separately.
The day-to-day loop is join, pick a destination from a compass, NPCs, menus, or /server, play for a while, then bounce back to a hub when you are done. Switching becomes part of the rhythm, especially on networks where you might warm up in Practice, queue a minigame, then head to Survival with the same friends list and party intact.
What you feel as a player is mostly polish and reliability. Good Velocity networks switch you quickly, drop you into a fallback hub when something restarts or fills up, and keep core systems consistent across the network, like ranks, punishments, chat, and cosmetics.
Progress is still backend-specific unless the network built syncing on purpose. Currency, permissions, and cosmetics are often shared. Inventories, ender chests, and world progress are usually separate because each mode is its own server. When a network is built well, it feels like one place with multiple districts, not separate servers glued together.
Is Velocity a game mode?
No. Velocity is the proxy in front of the servers. The actual gameplay comes from the backend servers it routes you to.
Why do these networks use a hub?
It is the default landing spot, the main menu, and the safety net. If a backend restarts, crashes, or hits player cap, the hub keeps you online and gives you somewhere to go next.
Will my inventory carry between servers?
Usually not. Each backend keeps its own player data. Some networks share ranks, currency, or cosmetics across modes, but inventory and progression tend to stay per-server unless advertised otherwise.
Can I join with different Minecraft versions?
Sometimes. Many networks accept a range of client versions using compatibility layers, but support varies. Check the listed version range and expect the best experience on the recommended version.
Does Velocity fix lag?
It helps the network stay playable by isolating problems and spreading load across servers. It will not make a heavily lagging Survival world fast, but it can stop that world from dragging down everything else.
