GriefPrevention
GriefPrevention servers revolve around one clear idea: claimed land is yours, unclaimed land is not. You protect builds by using a golden shovel to mark a claim, then grow it with claim blocks earned through playtime or server rewards. That single rule changes the mood of survival. You can build in the open, settle near other players, and treat a base as something you maintain for weeks instead of hiding everything in a hole.
The survival loop gets paced around territory. You pick a spot, drop a starter claim around essentials, and expand as your storage, farms, and builds sprawl. Trust settings become real social glue. You can grant a friend building access, let a neighbor use a farm, or keep containers private. Many servers also tune claim protections to shut down the usual grief routes inside claims, like explosions, fire spread, or mob damage, so progress feels stable without removing risk everywhere.
Wilderness remains the contrast. Outside claims, it is closer to default Minecraft: open building, open breaking, and temporary structures unless you lock them down. That boundary often shapes PvP expectations too. Fights might be allowed, but breaking into claimed bases is typically off the table. The end result is a survival scene that favors long-term building, towns, and trade over stealth destruction.
At its best, GriefPrevention creates low-drama continuity. You still negotiate borders, run into claim limits, and learn that social trust matters as much as gear, but you are rarely playing under the assumption that everything will be gone tomorrow.
How do claims work on a GriefPrevention server?
You define a rectangular area using a golden shovel, and the area costs claim blocks. Claims stay protected whether you are online or not, and you expand them as you earn more claim blocks.
Can other players use my chests, doors, and crafting setups inside my claim?
Usually no. Most setups block building and container access by default. You can grant trust to specific players, often with different levels for simple access versus full building and management.
Is the wilderness safe to build in?
Wilderness is typically treated as fair game. Builds there are easy to lose unless you claim them, so players often use it for temporary camps, resource outposts, roads, and quick projects.
Does GriefPrevention prevent creeper damage, TNT, and fire?
Often, but it depends on the server. Many servers reduce or disable explosion damage and fire spread inside claims while leaving the wilderness more dangerous. If it matters to your build, test on a small scale or check the server rules.
Why does it say I cannot build when the owner is offline?
Because claim protection is always active. If you are inside someone else's claim, you will be blocked even if nobody is online. The usual fix is to move outside the border or contact the owner to negotiate access.
What is the best way to share a base with friends using GriefPrevention?
Use trust deliberately. Keep valuables and core storage in a smaller area with tight trust, and use broader trust for shared builds like farms, roads, and public spaces. This avoids one mistake turning into a full base loss.
